Girls in Golf with Leila Harman

April is an amazing month for the game of golf. The weather starts to really warm up, flowers bloom, days get longer and everyone gets excited to hit the links.
It’s also when the best tournament of the year is held. The Masters has been my favourite tournament to watch every year since I can remember. I love watching to see who wins but really it’s all about the course. I was fortunate enough to attend the Masters in 2004. I will never forget how it felt to walk those fairways.
This year, April has been extra special. I am so excited to amp up my teaching with some new programs including my Girls Only and Ladies Only classes. The game of golf for women has a strong future. I got tingles yesterday as I watch the very first Women’s Augusta National Amateur event. The two girls in the final group were unbelievable. For Kupcho to shoot 5 under in the last 6 holes to win is truly incredible, for a girl or a guy!

But I wouldn’t forget the men! I have some wonderful students who I have been working with for over 5 years. They followed me from Vancouver to Morgan Creek. I find that the distances I hit and the game I play is perhaps more relatable to some men. I usually play the same tees (White and Silver) and with an average drive of 230-240, I hit the ball the same distance as a lot of men.

I really enjoy working with all levels! Helping people enjoy a sport that is so difficult is challenging at times but so rewarding. Golf is a lifelong sport. People of all ages and skill levels can play together. It truly is a unique game that way.
I have been an instructor for 15 years and have played for 29. Golf is my life and I think that love and excitement comes out when I’m teaching. It’s a great feeling when your student meets their goals with a big smile on their face.
