Wayne Vollmer, Brett Saunders, Scott Rodgers and Jonnie Motomochi of the Morgan Creek Performance Golf Academy recently made a trip to San Diego, CA to further their coaching education. They attended the 2018 Southern California PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit hosted by PGA Head Professional, Shawn Cox and his team at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar Resort and Golf Club.
The Morgan Creek Coaching Team were the only Canadian Professionals to learn alongside over 220 American PGA and LPGA Professionals that came together for two-days of world-class golf instruction and interactive demonstrations.
The Summit’s speakers included premier golf instructor, Hank Haney; Golf Digest top-rated instructor, Mike Bender; Dr. Greg Rose and David Phillips with the Titleist Performance Institute; PGA Tour Instructor, Scott Hamilton; PGA Tour Player and record holder, Stan Utley and The Grand Golf Club’s putting expert & Director of Instruction, Derek Uyeda, PGA.
In addition to these notable names, the biggest surprise of the event was special guest Phil Mickelson of the PGA Tour as a speaker on Monday morning. Attendees were able to enjoy a candid conversation with the champion as well as gain insight into his successful career on the PGA Tour. Mickelson is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame and 6-Time Major Champion with 49 professional worldwide wins.
The goal for the summit each year is to bring together the PGA and LPGA professionals from the SCPGA and learn the latest teaching techniques and coaching strategies, discover the up-to-date technology innovations available as well as giving the opportunity to grow relationships with fellow teaching and coaching professionals.
It was certainly a phenomenal two days of learning and we look forward to sharing our experiences with you and to put some of the insights we learned into our future coaching sessions.
